I worked over the course of a week to create two matching penguin puppets for The Snow Queen. Designed to be operated whilst kneeling, the puppets can be accessed through a hole in their backs, leading up to the mouth. There is room for squash and stretch in the neck, whilst the flippers are free-moving.
The Making Process

On a very tight deadline, I worked to create two penguin puppets from both EVA and upholstry foam, glued together using contact adhesive. Aside from their final scarf colour, the puppets are identical, making use of plywood mouthplates, vacuum formed eyes and a fleece finish. Most of the fabric is hand sewn, with details such as the white bellies being added after assembly.
